Intermittent fasting - Another Weight loss Fad or

Intermittent fasting

If you go through few of the personal blogs these days, you’ll find new fad diet. Its called Intermittent fasting. According to the Pro-fasting bloggers, this is the holy grail of losing weight, increase muscle mass and more… What exactly it is? Do you think it’ll help you?

Let me clear few things, this is a study done on rats, which I believe can never be transferred over to humans. They had a small sample size (17 people , 2 dropped out). They chose BIA out of all the available methods, given BIA’s woeful track record in fasting research. Of course I can go on and on about this study… but I won’t.

Intermittent Fasting (12-16 hrs of controlled fasting)

You are fasting 12-16 hours on regular basis. None of the IF dieting methods(Fast 5, warrior method etc) recommended more than 24 hr fast. In last of their meals, they are recommending a high protein diet.

You’ll find tons of people swearing by this diet… According to them wild animals do this kind of fasting and they are not fat… funny idea, I guess.

What’s My Viewpoint?

Calorie restriction and fasting are thought to contribute to wellness and longevity, weight loss and etc…

I’ve tried warrior diet… I like to try new things, just to be able to push my body limits. I am not going to lead you into scientific jargon here… But much of the stuff that you might find interesting. Here are my findings…

1. No good with High intensity: If you are working out regularly, Specially with High intensity exercises with heavy weights, then you’ll find yourself losing not only muscles but also strength.

2. Best results with FAT people : Ok When I tried this diet few years ago, I had fat of my clients try this out too. If you are in obese category You’ll lose weight and fast (but you can do that with simple carb manipulation without losing strength or muscles).

3. Great results for short term goals : Again, you can find short term results. But if you are working out, long term I found this to be pain (over 30 days).

4. Good for lazy people : Now all of you who hates to workout & with a strong taste buds, this is really a god sent gift. Now you can really fast all day long and eat almost anything at night…

Actually its better idea for lot of people, now they are not snacking all day long.. just in the evening… So this might be pretty low calorie food intake from their perspective.

So in all, if your goal is to lose weight, then give this a try. But if your goal is to build a toned body, increase strength (which is my goal here at http://www.10minutesonly.com), then I won’t recommend you at all.

I have personally made few changes to warrior diet (including more protein, carb and fat intake) and got great results. If you know you are someone who can’t help but snack on junk food… this is your way out… otherwise stick to getting complete nutrition to your body.
